Honeyed lies drank from poisoned lips
Laid my careful plans to waste
Those empty words
and hidden bites
Ate me up inside
Yet I’m still craving a taste.
Because all we really seem to want
Is what might kill us fastest.
Consumed by our needs
For the food of our detriment
And a sip of the deadliest drink
Filling up on love.
I do hope on your next course
That you’ll still remember me
All the sugar and the sweet
The blissful heaven on your tongue
Everything they’ll never be.
I want you to remember
How I was perfectly balanced
A complex gem on your palette
Because all I taste right now
Is bitter.

Snapping my fingers to this one. So simple, yet the meaning is so pure and relatable. Nicely done! 😀

Ah, I love the palette reference at the end, and love as a matter of taste buds. How we all crave what kills us faster. Thought-provoking morsel on love. Yum!
