Word-horny

I can’t dance the cancan
Yet
But I CAN cancan learn
And if that cancan can’t be taught
I can the cancan yearn.

But while I cannot cancan yet
I can’t be cancan spurned
Cause once the cancan can be danced
I’ll do that cancan turn.

And twist and writhe and dance away
The darkest of the nights.
While kicking up my feet and sway,
In the brightest of stage lights.

It doesn’t take much to get me word-horny. Horny for words. Aroused by text. As a writer, that is. But once it happens? Oooooh-wee – hide yoself!

I’ve never really been able to put a finger on the hows and whys of it – but certain plays on words, certain sentences and phrases, certain flows and rhythms in text I read will get me to an ecstatic form of happiness.
I’ll get to a state of physical excitement that resembles me seeing Ian Somerhalder pout darkly into a camera. Or Channing Tatum grind a stage to the tune of ‘Cookie‘. My body actually responds to the glee I feel – hence the phrasing ‘word-horny’. It’s a spring in the step, itch in the fingers, heart racing kind of ordeal that just has to be translated to paper (or screen).

And when I get those jitters I just have to write. It can be a word or a topic that springs to mind, just begging to be worded in infatuated sentences.

Or a string of them, inspiring a whole story. It can even be a wordless rhythm that is asking to be filled by whatever – like that cancan rhyme I woke up with bouncing round my skull.

The thing about this word-horniness is that it can be all my own. I understand deeply that you may not share my love for the god that is Ian Somerhalder. Or that Channing Tatum might have you want to gauge out (your?) eyes. They don’t have to have that same effect on panties for everyone – just like my words needn’t resonate the same way with each and every reader.

I can have you reading that rhyme up top and practically gag at the horrendousness of it and still read it to myself and excitedly hop in my chair. Word-horny.
My enthusiasm for the written word has never been (and can’t be) curbed by the feelings of others. It’s why I can’t do nothing but write ‘for me‘ and ‘about me‘.

I give in to my wordhorniness, I don’t try to create it in others. It’s too personal. The erogenous aesthetics of text that I crave might not ‘do it’ for any other and in that way follow the mysterious paths of human attraction.

The person that might bring about horniness in one might fall flat for another. Just like the words that get me going might make no sense to you. And that – that is ok. Because it’s that initial excited response that matters more than the causes or consequences. It’s more important to get word-horny than to also be instantly gratified.

Or. Maybe this whole blog was just subliminally steering your mood with the repetition of the word horny to see if that would actually bring about that effect just for the hell of it. Who knows! Cancan you guess?

You Master-Manipulator (of our innocent 😇 brains). How dare you!

  2. But seriously, I just HAD to read this Blog several times, merely to analyse what exactly made me ‘tick’ (in many ways like I’ve experienced with my favorite writers like, for example, Umberto Eco, Oriana Fallaci or Gabriel Garcia Marquez). (Yes, indeed, that’s ‘some kind’ of a compliment 😊).

Of course it’s the flow and rythm, the puns & humour, ‘the mind games’ (and the imagery you provoke) as usual. But mostly it’s your description of what you experience when an idea emerges and you start your ‘creative proces.’

(I just KNOW you are going to deny that something like that even exists, but – I think – that’s your ‘state of denial’ 😊 A ‘self chosen’ blindness 😘 for the fact that you DO have a natural talent, that sets you (miles) apart of many, many others. I presume a lot of your ‘frequent followers will admit it, or already did so by praising your style and the apparent easiness and flow of your writing).

Although this time the subject (rythm, music, sex, the beauty of words) which fits you to a T)) might provoke some ‘extra’ smiles and chuckles, I can identify with the ‘physical’ experiences you describe when ‘a flow’ comes over you and your thoughts start finding their way “begging to be worded in infatuated sentences.” (The imagery words like these provoke … (in my mind) 🥰).

Your “enthusiasm for the written word” is splattering of ‘the pages’ (or in my case: screen). And it – frequently – leads to beautiful sentences in which you succeed to express your ambition (and make it felt on ‘the receiving end’), as for example “the erogenous aesthetics of text that I crave.” Almost poetry. Like I’ve said before: you’ve got a way with words. It’s a gift!

And while – as you said many times – it’s a Personal Blog ‘because’ “I can’t do nothing but write ‘for me‘ and ‘about me‘,” I still thank you for sharing your thoughts and feelings with us.

Sometimes you make me reflect on things (or in your own words “pensive ponderings”), sometimes you make me laugh (quite often 😊), sometimes you make me cry, and when you push it to the limit you may even make me ‘word-horny’ … 😂

    1. Several times?
You look for too much depth and meaning sometimes 😂😂
There is such a thing as overthinking. Believe me – it’s one of my flaws too 🤭
Don’t fall for it too easily

(I thought it would be nice to give you some praise, but don’t worry: ‘several’ is a cover up for (just) ‘twice.’ And it was worth it. Both times).

  4. Lots of things I like about this post, thank you.

The poem at the start – is that yours? If so, my respect for you has increased a further notch even when I didn’t think that was possible.

Word-horny… I get what you mean but I don’t think I feel this quite to the same extent you do.

I actually think I’m in a bit of denial about the link for me between sexual arousal and wordplay. I think I’m ashamed of it… which of course I shouldn’t be.

A semi-secret: a wrote a novella (self-published on Amazon) about my earliest sexual experiences (ages 16 to 20). It was one of the most fun projects I’ve ever engaged in. I wasn’t nearly as skilled as you with language… I was much more blunt.

But a funny thing happened… by describing my sexual experiences, several lady readers practically threw their knickers at me. It was a pleasant surprise, though I ended up getting myself into a bit of trouble… not good for a married man! The power to wet panties through words alone was quite intoxicating for me.

These days I have my priorities straight: my wife comes first, no questions. But that also means I’ve kinda shut off my own word horniness… and perhaps I ought to explore ways to express it which won’t get me into trouble or end in divorce!

I truly mean this: you are a God-tier wordsmith and I’m delighted to have discovered you and your work. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

    1. Sexual experiences aged 16 to 20…
And they were adequate enough to invoke knickerthrowing?
As a started-at-18 knicker-owner who took a good 7 years to find something throw-worthy after that….that is just mind-boggling. I wonder if my excellent Google skills will….dundundun.

The ‘poem’ (although more of a joke tbh) is mine indeed. And thus I find myself blushing once more. You (as well as Thuurlijk) are WAY too kind!
      (But thank you regardless!!!)

      1. I didn’t say I was particularly skilled at sex aged 16-20… in fact I’m not sure I have any particular skill in that areas even now in my 40s… it was much more the way I described dating, romancing and bedding people (yes, men and women)… people seemed to really like my raw honesty… and there were several painful/non-sexy/ewww moments!

I doubt you’ll find my book on Amazon, I used a different pseudonym back then. But if you’re really curious I’ll share the title with you. Maybe it won’t do anything for you sexually, but maybe it will.

      2. Well, for better or for worse, here’s the title: A Young Geek’s Tale. I think you can get it on Holland’s Amazon. I’d be interested to hear your thoughts, obviously from a stone-cold literary perspective only, LOL.

  5. And obviously, this happens a lot, according to the frequency of your posts… 😂
(Btw, this cancan thing reminds me of a limerick from my youth – limericks tend to hypnotize me in general, stupid as they are, but… this rhythm… 😁 – :
    “A canner exceedingly canny
One morning remarked to his granny
    A canner can can
    Anything that he can
But a canner can’t can a can, can he?”)

  6. Dear Dr Zoe,
I was scrawling in my notebook yesterday (I still use pens and paper – yes, I’m old), stream-of-consciousness stuff, and a beautiful combination of words just flowed out of me. I was so excited by this that I cannot read my handwriting past that point.
    Am I horny?
    Yours, a reader

      All the best to you!
